Here's why you need backup power that works!
  • 2003, August 14th, USA, New York and dozens of cities across the eastern USA and Canada left without power. An estimated 50 million people were affected and financial losses are estimated at $6 billion. 21 power stations shut down within 3 minutes. Cause: Cascading failures through the distribution system after a single power station went off line.

  • 2006, Monday 12 June, New Zealand, Auckland. Massive Power Failure – estimated to have cost ‘tens of millions of dollars for Auklands economy. Cause: Weather.
  • 2007, July 24th, USA, San Francisco. Major power outage leaving 20,000+ people without power. Some of the internet’s biggest web sites (and the server farms powering them) are hit. Cause: Failure of backup diesel systems following an electrical surge.

Your backup power systems are only as good as the batteries that support them. Even the best batteries require testing and maintenance, regardless of if they are sealed VRLA type batteries and claim to be maintenance free.

Lead acid batteries form the core energy reserve for over 90% of all industrial-scale emergency power systems. These batteries age through natural electrochemical processes. If the system that is charging and maintaining your batteries is not correctly configured, or is faulty, this could lead to premature and accelerated aging of the batteries and failure of the system to provide emergency power when you need it.

Regular maintenance and testing of your back up batteries is essential to ensure that your systems are protected and that your battery infrastructure is maintained in a healthy and service-ready state, ready to deliver power when you need it most.

Here at Battery Test Support we help you get the most out of your battery test hardware, helping you to correctly organize and prepare your testing procedures, and understand the implications of your test results.

Should you need onsite assistance, consultation to assist in setting up testing procedures or assistance acquiring the correct battery testing hardware for your particular needs, please do not hesitate to contact us.
